Avatar
According to the Oxford Dictionary, the word Avatar comes from Sanskrit (Hindi) and has the following meanings:
The first meaning is related to Hinduism, where an Avatar is the manifestation of a deity in bodily form on Earth.
From this idea comes the different synonyms to the word 'avatar' as "incarnation", "embodiment", or "manifestation of a person or idea.

A second meaning of the word shares this basic idea and applies to the world of computers and virtual worlds. So, an 'avatar' is an icon or figure representing a particular person in a computer game, internet forum, etc.
